- Trip launched as research shows that schoolchildren want 10 holidays a year and ALL of their school friends with them
15th November 2017: In a child from Belfast’s perfect world, Ed Sheeran would be Prime Minister, ten holidays a year would be the norm, and all our school friends would come with us, says new research released by Jet2holidays to mark the launch of a school trip which is making some of these dreams come true!
From today, schools across Northern Ireland and the UK are in with a chance of winning a place for an entire class of 9-13 year olds on the Ultimate School Trip with Jet2holidays. In total, nine classes and their teachers will spend a long weekend (Friday 20th April – Sunday 22nd April 2018) at Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in Majorca where they will take part in fun educational workshops with celebrity hosts. The workshops will focus on science, history, drama and crafts, as well as giving pupils all the excitement you would expect from a school trip overseas.
In addition to an educational trip of a lifetime, winning classes will get to experience a range of one-off memories such as VIP send offs at the airport, a welcome dinner with celebrities, and the ultimate school disco and show.
The competition was launched today by Kids TV presenters, Dick and Dom, who will host the trip. The duo will be on the road with Jet2holidays over the next fortnight, as the leading package holiday specialist announces the trip through a series of roadshows in its nine bases across the UK including Belfast on Wednesday 29th November.
To mark the launch, Jet2holidays polled the nation’s school children to discover the hilarious, heart-warming and sometimes down right odd things kids would want to see in their ultimate world, with some interesting changes emerging.
The research shows that the world is in very good hands, with 84% saying they plan to make the world a better place and 77% saying they could do a better job than most politicians and world leaders.
Given that revelation, it is perhaps no surprise that the ultimate world in the minds of schoolchildren involves some radical leadership changes at the top. When it comes to the next Prime Minister, Ed Sheeran gets the vote of today’s schoolchildren, followed by Simon Cowell, Stormzy, Arianna Grande, and Dick & Dom themselves. No politician makes the top 20.
Children don’t plan on all work though, with Belfast pupils demanding an average of ten holidays a year, with all of their school friends in tow with them. Mum and Dad had better get saving, as their ideal amount of spending money is no less than £16,006 for each trip – just the small matter of £160,060 for parents across the ten holidays!
Other wishes that make an ideal world for school children in Northern Ireland are:
- Mandatory three-day weekends
- No bedtime
- No limits on screen time
- Mum and Dad to spend less time at work – a somewhat unreasonable request given their financial demands when it comes to holiday spending money
Encouragingly, local children expressed a strong desire to learn, with not a single respondent wanting to get rid of schooling, although almost half (47%) would reduce the number of hours they spend at school. School trips, friends, and brilliant teachers come out as the top things about school – and receiving a telling off the worst.
In light of this, the Ultimate School Trip will help bring to life some of the findings – with nine lucky classes getting to spend a long weekend in Majorca with all their classmates. To enter, pupils are challenged to jet-power their imagination and produce their own promotional piece for Sol Katmandu Park & Resort, whether that be a poster, poem, song or video. The judges, including Dick and Dom, will create a shortlist of five schools in each of Jet2holidays’ nine airport regions, which will then go to a public vote, with the final nine class winners announced on Tuesday 13th March. All 45 shortlisted schools will receive £1,000 worth of school equipment vouchers. For more details and to enter, visit http://ultimateschooltrip.jet2holidays.com/. Entries must be submitted by Wednesday 28th February 2018.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “It’s great to see the heart-warming and positive things that would make our children’s ultimate worlds and we’re excited to launch the Ultimate School Trip in Belfast, which goes a long way towards bringing some of these to life. School trips provide many of our best school memories and create some of the most valuable and lasting educational experiences. They give children the opportunity to step out of the classroom and experience History, Geography, Science, and the Arts in amazing new locations. This once-in-a-lifetime trip to Sol Katmandu Park & Resort certainly does that and we are looking forward to seeing all the entries.”
